This holiday season, do good, better

With Greece in a COVID-19 lockdown, we know that the most vulnerable are the ones who get hit the hardest. Help provide support for our Duet families so they can immediately get the items they need to bounce back from COVID-19 and continue to rebuild their lives.

While Duet’s normal model allows for donors to fund the items self-selected by our families, the total current countrywide lockdown prevents our Duet beneficiaries from being able to experience shopping or pick up their items when funded. While our ability to provide direct help through local stores has paused, the need has not.

In response to the crisis, we are raising money to pre-fund our Duet families’ monthly budgets, allowing them to immediately request and receive the vital items they need the very moment the stores reopen. This holiday season, help us guarantee that both our beneficiaries and small local store owners get the relief they need quickly and efficiently after the lockdown ends.

Particularly in a year like 2020, your gift has the potential to protect resettling refugees from excess hardship and fast track their path towards rebuilding their lives.

Rebuilding lives, together.

When you fund a family, you fund their future.

The Duet team met a young man named Faramarz and his family in February of 2019. He told us that he had loved playing soccer since he was a child, enjoyed watching Game of Thrones, and shared the difficulties of meeting his mother’s needs as a diabetic. We spoke through a translator.

Through Duet, Faramarz asked for a soccer ball, cleats, and shin guards which were promptly donated by a fellow soccer lover. He was then able to join the soccer league on the island, making friends and socializing with his new neighbors, many of whom worked as translators on the Island.

Months later, Faramarz requested and received a laptop, an important tool in rebuilding his life. He set to work - watching all the seasons of Game of Thrones in English, only needing to use subtitles for seasons 1 and 2. Soon, Faramarz was fluent enough to not only enjoy his favorite show but also to find a job. Through his new network of friends Faramarz was hired as a translator by Doctors Without Borders!

Faramarz is now financially self-sufficient, and uses his position to contribute to other refugees in the community. After a year with Duet, he proudly shared his story with us, translator free.

Every refugee's journey is different, and the road to rebuilding is always unique. Duet believes that refugees know best what they need to rebuild their lives. Not every family will watch Game of Thrones, play soccer, and become translators, but when given the opportunity, they all have what it takes to rebuild their lives. Join them on their journey.

Do good, better.

This fund will allow Duet families to immediately request and receive the vital items they need upon store re-openings, eliminating the wait between request and funding while providing support for small local shops as they reopen. We look forward to providing an update on the exact item that your donation funded upon pickup!
